Which pyramids you can go inside

Not all pyramids are open inside. Some close in turns for maintenance. This table shows the pyramids near Cairo and their status in October 2026. The ticket prices come from the official ticket sites.

The ticket rules

  • At Giza, buy the plateau ticket first. The plateau ticket does not include the inside of the pyramids.
  • Add a separate ticket for each pyramid that you want to enter.
  • At Saqqara, the Pyramid of Djoser needs an extra ticket. The Ministry list for the Saqqara all-inclusive ticket does not include it.
  • At Dahshur, the official booking page sells one entry ticket. It has no extra tickets for the pyramids.

Buy tickets on egymonuments.com, the official ticket site of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. For all Giza prices, see Pyramids of Giza tickets.

Rules inside

  • Photos. The Ministry lets visitors take personal photos and videos with a phone or a camera. Do not use flash in indoor places, such as the inside of a pyramid.
  • Staff. Obey the instructions of the staff at each entrance.

Who should stay outside

The passages are narrow, low and steep. In most of them, an adult must bend forward for a long distance.

  • If you have a fear of small, closed spaces, stay outside.
  • If you cannot bend or climb for some minutes, stay outside.
  • If you have a heart, breathing, back or knee condition, ask your doctor before your trip.

Which pyramid to choose

  • For the most famous interior, choose the Great Pyramid. You go up the Grand Gallery to the King's Chamber. The Great Pyramid has the most expensive ticket. For the route and what you see, read Inside the Great Pyramid.
  • For a lower ticket price at Giza, choose the Pyramid of Khafre. A passage goes down to its burial chamber. This chamber is cut into the bedrock.
  • For an older pyramid, choose the Pyramid of Djoser at Saqqara. It is older than the Giza pyramids. It is the oldest complete stone building complex that is known (Wikipedia).
  • For fewer people, consider Dahshur. It is south of Saqqara. The Ministry says that King Sneferu built the Bent Pyramid and the Red Pyramid there.

Saqqara and Dahshur are a separate trip south of Giza. See Cairo day tours.

What you will not see inside

The rooms that visitors enter in the Giza pyramids are bare stone. They have no ancient paintings. If you want to see ancient texts inside a pyramid, there is an example at Saqqara. The Ministry says that the Pyramid of Unas has the oldest pyramid burial chamber that is decorated with texts. We could not confirm on an official page that it is open to visitors in October 2026.
