How long to see the pyramids of Giza: half day, full day or more
How long to see the pyramids depends on what you add to the visit. By our estimate, a first visit to the Giza plateau takes half a day. A visit inside a pyramid or a second site can make it a full day.

Time for each type of visit
The times in this table are our planning estimates for a first visit. No official source gives a visit time. Your time can be longer on a busy day.
| Visit | Estimated time |
|---|---|
| The three large pyramids, the Sphinx and the panoramic viewpoint, outside only | Half a day |
| The same stops, plus the inside of one pyramid | Half a day to a full day |
| The same stops, plus tombs such as the Tomb of Meresankh III | A full day |
| The plateau, plus the Grand Egyptian Museum or Saqqara | A full day |
What adds time
- Distance. The plateau is large. The panoramic viewpoint is in the desert, far from the Great Pyramid. An electric shuttle bus system runs on the plateau, as of April 2025.
- Inside a pyramid. A visit inside a pyramid needs a separate ticket. The passages inside can be crowded. See Inside the Great Pyramid.
- Tombs. The Tomb of Meresankh III and the workers' tombs need their own tickets.
- Travel. The plateau is approximately 13 km southwest of central Cairo. Traffic can make the drive much longer.
Plan around the last entry
Every day, except Ramadan, you can enter the plateau from 07:00, last entry 16:00. During Ramadan, you can enter from 08:00, last entry 15:30.
Start early in the morning. You then have more time before the last entry, and the sun is less strong.
