Method and limits

  • We searched Reddit with 106 searches in travel and Egypt subreddits, for example r/EgyptTravelTips, r/Egypt, r/askegypt, r/travel and r/solotravel. We kept threads from 3 November 2025 to 2 November 2026 that mention a scam, a hustle or a price trick.
  • We read each post and all the comments that Reddit returned. A report is one person's own account of one scam or scam attempt. It counts if the person paid or did not pay.
  • We did not count general warnings, stories from other people, trips before 2025, or pushy selling without a trick.
  • These are self-reported stories. They are not a full count of scams in Egypt, and they do not show how often a scam happens to a visitor.
  • Reddit users are not a sample of all visitors. We read only posts and comments in English.
  • Each report has one main type and one place. Some reports fit two types. We checked each report a second time and removed 10 that did not match these rules.
