Camel ride prices

The Giza Governorate has an approved price list for horse and camel rides in the pyramids area. On 2 July 2026, the Egyptian newspaper Al-Watan reported that governorate officials checked that the owners obey this price list and the set routes. We could not find the prices that this list gives. The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities sells tickets for the plateau, the pyramids and the tombs. Its booking page does not sell camel or horse rides.

In June and July 2026, some foreign news reports said that Egypt would end camel and horse rides at the pyramids. On 9 August 2026, Orascom Pyramids, a company that develops visitor services at the pyramids, said that the rides are being organized, not canceled.

Ask the owner for the approved price before you get on. The US Department of State tells tourists to beware of overcharging and scams in tourist areas.

Agree these points before you get on

Agree all of these points before you get on the camel. After you get on, it is more difficult to say no.

  1. The full price. Ask for one total price for the full ride.
  2. Each person or each camel. Ask if the price is for each person or for each camel.
  3. The currency. Agree if you pay in Egyptian pounds, US dollars or euros.
  4. The time. Agree how many minutes the ride takes.
  5. The route. Agree where the ride starts and where it stops.
  6. Photos. Ask if a photo by the owner costs more.
  7. The end of the ride. Agree that the camel kneels and you get down at the agreed stop.

Have the correct amount of cash ready. Pay at the end of the ride, at the agreed stop.

How to say no to offers that you do not want

The UK government says that scammers and touts sometimes target foreign visitors at tourist sites. If you do not want a ride or another offer, use these steps.

  • Say "No, thank you" one time, in a calm voice. In Arabic, you can say "La, shukran".
  • Continue to walk. Do not stop to discuss a price.
  • Do not take an item that someone puts in your hand as a "free gift".
  • Do not give your phone or camera to a person who offers to take a photo.
  • Do not follow a person who says that an area is closed and offers a different route.

A guide can speak for you and keep sellers away from your group. Ask the tour company if the guide stays with you on the plateau.

If you have a problem, call the tourist police on 126.

Other ways to see the plateau

You do not need a camel to see the plateau. An electric shuttle bus system runs on the plateau, as of April 2025. In the 2022 trial plan, the bus route had stops at the panoramic viewpoint.

The plateau ticket does not include the inside of the pyramids. For the official ticket prices, see Pyramids of Giza tickets. For the time that you need, see How long to see the pyramids.

The care of the animals

Some travel writers report that camels and horses at the pyramids are sometimes overworked. Look at the animal before you agree to a ride. If it looks hurt, thin or tired, do not ride it.
