Safety in the different areas
The UK travel advice for Egypt, updated on 27 October 2026, does not name a Cairo district. Its list of areas where it advises against travel includes border areas, North Sinai and parts of the Western Desert.
The same advice gives these points for all of Egypt:
- The crime rate is generally low. Take sensible precautions.
- Avoid large gatherings, demonstrations and protests.
- Female travelers should be careful when they travel alone, particularly at night, in taxis.
- To report a crime, phone the tourist police on 126.
Day trips from your area
Ask your hotel how long the drive is at the time of day that you will travel. For day trips from any area, for example to Saqqara and Dahshur, see Cairo day tours.
